Sikhs came to Edmonton the capital of economically prosperous and oil rich province Alberta of Canada starting in the early sixties. Up to 1980 these Sikhs had formed 3 institutions to fulfill their social and religious needs. These institutions were running Gurdwaras in either rented or own-purchased buildings. On November 5, 1982, a society in the name of Ramgarhia Gursikh Society of Edmonton was registered with the Government of Alberta. In March 1983 first formal managing committee of Society was formed unanimously. Management rented a hall and started religious congregation every alternate Sunday. First religious congregation was held on April 10, 1983. After seeing Sangat’s enthusiasm, deewans were started weekly. Simultaneously, new site for the Gurdwara Sahib building was purchased and construction work was started. The First Akhand Path Sahib was held on Gurdwara premises in April 1986. Since then, the Gurdwara building has been extended to its present size.
